Artificial intelligence will save crops from diseases and pests

Diversified multinational company Monsanto is the world leader in the field of plant biotechnology. It professionals for decades, working to create a new genetically modified plants that can survive in almost any environment and not afraid of viruses and dangerous pests. To achieve its goals, Monsanto often uses the most advanced technologies. For example, recently it became known that it will join forces with one of the leaders in the development of artificial intelligence – the company Atomwise.

Artificial intelligence will help scientists Monsanto quickly and effectively to detect molecules capable of protecting crops from various diseases and insects. Instead of having to go through the countless number of molecules, one after another, neural network, created by experts at Atomwise, uses deep machine learning to eliminate the most options and leave only those candidates that have the desired effect. This approach to the problem will save the company Monsanto is a huge amount of time and money. Because, as a rule, the development of effective protection for the crops is around 11 years old. And the cost of these projects exceeds a quarter of a billion dollars.

Use in artificial intelligence research will not only speed up a very long process and Monsanto to bring additional profit, but also to predict possible side effects from the use of the established means of treatment. It is important not only to save the harvest, but not to harm the environment, insects that pose no threat to crops and soil.
