Rumor: Snapdragon 850 Will Be the First Processor Supporting 5G Networks


At Qualcomm has formed a tradition each year to roll out at least one its flagship processor. What Snapdragon 845 will bring with us, we already know and left the case for a small one, check what the new platform is capable of. Therefore, we are waiting for the first representative to appear on the market with this SoC on board. In the meantime, the chip maker himself is working at a shocking pace at the new generation of the top platform, and today a message has come that the manufacturer of Qualcomm processors will introduce a mobile chip Snapdragon 850 in the year 2018.
 
According to PC Mag, the processor will receive support for 5th generation networks and can debut in laptops. According to the publication, the mobile processor will be a modified version of Snapdragon 845 which initially targets smartphones, the Snapdragon 850 is likely to be initially dedicated to Windows 10 on ARM PCs with an X50 modem supporting 5G. The chip is likely to be larger than the company’s previous processors, so it is considered for installation in laptop computers or tablets.
 
The processor will turn any laptop into a device working in the 5th generation networks. According to rumors, it can debut in the second quarter of 2018 and will appear in one of the new laptops. Since Snapdragon 850 will be less productive than competitive models from Intel or AMD, it will be installed in ultrabooks and other devices that are not gaming oriented, video editing or photo processing.
 
It is expected that the first smartphones and laptops with support for the 5th generation networks can be announced this year and will appear at the beginning of the next. In late 2017, Qualcomm introduced a new chip Snapdragon 845, which will be completed with most of the Android flagships this year.
