Experts find serious security vulnerabilities in cellular networks

Experts in the field of information security found that modern scammers monitor subscribers on a daily basis, intercept calls, and actively exploit other vulnerabilities of cellular networks. This is stated in  Positive Technologies’ study.

According to the results of the research, 100% of attacks aimed at interception of SMS-messages, which can lead to compromise of mobile banks, public services and other applications, are successful for intruders.

Also popular among cyber-fraudsters is unauthorized sending of short USSD-requests, as a result of which the subscriber can write off money from the account or secretly sign it for an expensive service.

In addition, experts analyzed the cellular networks of operators in Europe and the Middle East and found that in almost all of them you can listen to the conversation of the subscriber or read incoming SMS messages. All these networks have serious vulnerabilities, using which an attacker can disrupt the operation of mobile communications, reports gazeta.ru.
