Google Chrome will now let you browse content without an active Internet connection

Google Chrome now allows users in developing markets to browse content without an active Internet connection. When a Google Chrome user on Android is connected to a free, unmetered connection, then the service will automatically download content that is popular a person's area or tailored content based on previous browsing activity.

Google Chrome will now pre-fetch popular and tailored content for users in India and 100 other markets that experience spotty or bad network connectivity. The feature works when a Google Chrome user is connected to a free, unmetered WiFi and the service automatically downloads content based on what's popular in a user's location or tailored content for the particular user. The feature is especially useful in remote areas in the country that has poor network connectivity.

Google Chrome already includes an automatic data saver to help users conserve data who're on limited data plans. The pre-fetch feature is intended for NBU markets, and Google in their blog post mentions that "This downloaded content is then available whenever you want to access it, even if you don't have a connection.". Google Chrome is available on smartphones running on Android platforms. Android smartphone users need to update their Google Chrome application on the Play store to the latest build.

Apart from India, the feature will be available to 100 other markets including Nigeria, Indonesia and Brazil. The feature will help users in remote areas to access information ranging from news, articles, sports, literature or just about any other material that is available online. More importantly, the type of content that is pre-fetched will depend on a user's particular location or will serve tailored content based on previous browsing activity.Meanwhile, Google India on Tuesday said it will provide training to 8,000 journalists in English and six other Indian languages in the next one year. For this, the Google News Initiative India Training Network will select 200 journalists from cities across India who will hone their skills in verification and training during five-day train-the-trainer boot camps that will be organised for English and six other Indian languages.
