China is testing a “flying” train

In China, began testing a train on a magnetic cushion, which moves through the air without contact with the ground. The project was launched by CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co in Shanghai. Information about this appeared in the Xinhua News Agency.

In China, factory dynamic testing of a prototype magnetic cushion train was launched at a design speed of 600 km/h. The train moves in the air without touching the ground. Researchers conducted comprehensive tests of the test sample in various operating modes. The event marks a major breakthrough in the development of a high-speed levitation transport system, noted CRRC Qingdao Sifang.

Due to some design features, the levitating train on a magnetic pad makes very little noise while driving. The minimum turning radius is less than half the turning radius of ordinary metro trains, so transport will be more maneuverable.

Sansan noted that the high-speed transport system with magnetic levitation includes such subsystems as traction power supply, communication-based train control, and rail track.

The development project started in July 2016. The research involved more than 30 enterprises, universities, and research institutes from different regions of the country. A prototype magnetic cushion train was manufactured at the CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co-production line in May of this year.
