Pandemic will create a shortage of cybersecurity professionals

Already in 2021, in many regions around the world, including Russia, there may be a shortage of information security specialists. This, according to RBC, is indicated by the results of a study conducted by PwC.

The survey, which covered the most diverse sectors of the IT market, suggests that in 2021, about half (51%) of companies in the world and 42% in Russia intend to increase the number of employees in the cybersecurity area.

Such a sharp increase in the demand for specialists in the field of information security was provoked by the pandemic. Due to the rapid development of teleworking and distance learning platforms, companies around the world needed experts to ensure the reliable, stable and secure operation of such systems, as well as the protection of transmitted data.

The study showed that on a global scale, 22% of companies (in Russia – about 18%) plan to increase their cybersecurity staff by 5% or more.

“Hiring managers face tough competition in the cyber labor market. The most recent studies indicate that, in the US alone, 50% fewer candidates are available than are needed in the cyber field”, says the PwC report.
