Could Samsung ditch the Galaxy Note series in 2021?

Two more tipsters have suggested that Samsung might not be working on new Note devices.
This would echo a report earlier this year, alleging that foldables could replace the Note line.

We previously heard that Samsung could abandon the Galaxy Note series in 2021 in favor of the Galaxy Fold lineup. It would be a major shakeup for the firm, but at least two more sources have revealed info suggesting this could indeed be the case.

Android Police writer Max Weinbach asserted on Twitter that Samsung is expected to offer four Galaxy S21 phones and three foldables in 2021. These phones are the Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus, Galaxy S21 Ultra, Z Flip 3, Z Fold 3, and Z Fold FE. In other words, he doesn’t list the Note series anywhere.

Meanwhile, tipster Ice Universe has also claimed that there is “currently no information on the development” of the Galaxy Note 21 series. It’s worth noting (heh) that Ice Universe has a mixed reputation, but both of these sources echo a report from Korea back in August.

The Elec reported earlier this year that Samsung hasn’t confirmed a Note series launch for the second half of 2021, claiming that a Z Fold 3 with an S-Pen is scheduled for this release window instead. The outlet added at the time that foldable sales could be the biggest factor in determining whether a 2021 Note lineup could go ahead. In other words, if Samsung foldables achieve a similar level of commercial success as the Note line, the firm would ostensibly ditch the 2021 Note series in favor of foldables.

The outlet was also among the first to report that Samsung could be bringing the S-Pen to the Galaxy S30 Ultra. And if the stylus is made available for Samsung’s Galaxy S series, what would make a Note device stand out?

All of this isn’t definitive proof that Samsung is abandoning the Note series in 2021. It’s possible that foldable sales aren’t anywhere near that of the Note family, or the company could decide to release new Note phones anyway. But it certainly seems like Samsung could be moving in a different direction.
