Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G launched from ~US$243 with a 108 MP HM2 camera and a 120 Hz display


Xiaomi has already released two smartphones called the Redmi Note 9 Pro this year, but it has unveiled a third - the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G. Teased extensively by Xiaomi earlier this week, the Redmi Note 9 Pro is the most powerful of three devices that the company has announced today. It is also the first Redmi smartphone to feature a 108 MP camera, which Xiaomi has sourced from Samsung.
 
Specifically, the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G uses Samsung's HM2 sensor, which Xiaomi has complemented with an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, along with 2 MP macro and depth sensors. The main 108 MP camera can record videos in up to 4K at 30 FPS or 1080p at 60 FPS, but it also supports 9-in-1 pixel binning to deliver 12 MP photos.
 
A Snapdragon 750G underpins the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G, which features an Adreno 619 GPU and eight processor cores. The mid-range chipset can be paired with a minimum of 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, although SKUs with 8 GB of RAM and/or 256 GB of storage are also available. A 4,820 mAh battery keeps the device ticking over, which can be recharged at up to 33 W.
 
A side-mounted fingerprint sensor handles biometric authentication, but one of the highlights of the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G is its display. Xiaomi has equipped the device with a 6.67-inch IPS panel that operates at 1080p. The display maxes out at a refresh rate of 120 Hz and has a hole-punch for a 16 MP front-facing camera.
 
The Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G will be available in China in three colours. The device starts at CNY 1,599 (~US$243) with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. However, prices rise to CNY 1,799 (~US$273) for an additional 2 GB of RAM and CNY 1,999 (~US$304) if you want 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Xiaomi is yet to announce international availability for the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G, but the device is rumoured to arrive globally as the Redmi Note 9T Pro.
