False information disseminated about restriction of Internet on behalf of Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies

Information was disseminated on social networks about the complete cessation of Internet access in the western regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan from 00:00 on December 16 on behalf of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies. The information is posted on social networks with a logo similar to the ministry’s logo, but not belonging to the ministry, and a list of regions.

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies warns citizens that this information does not correspond to reality.

It should be noted that on September 27, in order to prevent large-scale provocations and cyber incidents committed by the Republic of Armenia, in accordance with the law, a temporary restriction was imposed on the provision of the Internet in our country. This restriction was lifted on November 12, 2020, with the exception of the liberated and former frontline areas.

In both cases, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies informed the public about this through mass media.

We ask citizens to trust only information provided by official sources. When faced with such false information on social media accounts, do not share their screen images (screenshots) or post them. In the meantime, please save screen images and other electronic evidence of such cyber incidents and send them to us.

Also, if you encounter any cyber incidents or need methodological support, please contact the Electronic Security Service under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies via the website www.cert.az   or e-mail reports@cert.az.
