Zuckerberg joins Pinterest rival The Fancy

Facebook CEO fancies some high-end bookshelves, but does he also fancy buying the consumer-focused image-sharing site?

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg joined The Fancy this morning, piquing the interest of more than 100,000 followers by the late afternoon, Fast Company first noticed.

The site is known as a high-end competitor to Pinterest that has figured out how to integrate sales into its member's "fancy'd" images. Zuckerberg's first fancy'd item was an Extendo Library Shelving System, which is so fancy it's made in Italy.

This got us wondering: is Zuckerberg interested in more than collecting images of things he likes? The last time he joined a social network site like this it was Instagram, which Facebook is in the process of acquiring for $1 billion.

Though a Facebook representative said the company can't confirm any of this, The Fancy has Zuckerberg's handle, Zuckd, as a verified account.

Backed by major Silicon Valley players like Twitter creator and Square co-founder Jack Dorsey and Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, The Fancy describes itself as "part store, blog, magazine, and wishlist."
As part of its allure, the site has actual items for sale (like this classy lamp  that looks like a dog doing its business), a feature Pinterest doesn't have as yet.
