Samsung warns about tapping into its smart TVs

South Korean company Samsung has called its customers not to discuss personal matters before smart TVs. Caution is designed for users who prefer to give commands to Samsung Smart TV team not using the remote control, but voice.

A smart TV can listen and analyze the speech of its owner, and sometimes it transmits data to a third party. The device "listens" to the people in the room in order to determine when the command will be given. So if personal or other important information is contained in the owner’s words, this information will be among the data transferred to a third party.

After the news about the eavesdropping TVs spread throughout the Web, the Samsung issued a statement explaining the rules for using a voice control. According to the company, the rules were published in the "policy of transparency", providing users with full information on the Smart TV functions.
As indicated in the revised version of the rules, "if a customer agrees and wants to activate the voice commands, some voice commands (along with information about the device) can be transferred to a third party. Data is transmitted only during a search required by the client team, and received voice data is not saved and is not sold,” the company stressed.
