According to ThreatMetrix’s report, cybercrime has increased by almost 100% since 2015. In particular, frauds with the use of new accounts have increased by 30% since the 1st quarter of 2016.
The increase in the number of fake profiles strongly influenced media companies. Attacks launched with the use using new accounts increased by 527%. The diversity and sharp growth of digital media sites and applications made them the target of cybercriminals. 28 million such attacks were recorded in the second quarter. Most cyber-attacks on global media companies were launched from South America, with 45% of them from Brazil.
However, cybercriminals are interested mostly in e-commerce: the industry underwent 88 million attacks in the 1st quarter of 2016. This is 41% more than in the corresponding period of 2015. Mobile phones accounted for 47% of e-commerce transactions. Of these, 55% were associated with new accounts. Europe remains the most "mobile" region: 53% of all transactions are made with use of telephones there, igate.com.ua reports.
