Azerbaijan has high level of “Internet Freedom”

"Freedom House" organization has released  a report titled "Freedom on the Net 2011", in which  estimations of freedom of the internet and media for many countries are given. According to "Internet Freedom" index, Azerbaijan takes place among countries with partial freedom of internet.  

The report contained "Internet Freedom" indexes for many countries, and Azerbaijan, according to these estimations, took the 20th place among them.  

Let’ note that the global index, "Internet Freedom, is used for measuring the level of freedom of the internet and media in different countries.  A scale of 0-100 points is used in the estimation of "Internet Freedom".

A country with the index approaching 0 has a high level of "Internet Freedom", and a country with the index approaching 100 has a low level of "Internet Freedom". According to the estimations the first three places were taken by Estonia, USA and Germany, countries with absolute freedom of the internet and media.  

Along with Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia and Russia were also included in the list of counties with "Partial Internet Freedom".    China, which takes the leading place in the number of internet users in the world, was among the countries which lack freedom of the internet and media.  

The lowest estimation, according to "Internet Freedom" index, was given to Islamic Republic of Iran. It should be noted that such sub-indexes as content limitation, user rights violation and access restriction are used in the estimation of "Internet Freedom" index.
