A three-day virtual sub-regional consultation was held to discuss the draft "Recommendations on the ethics of Artificial Intelligence".

The event was jointly organized by the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI) for the European Region (Group II), the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports of the Republic of Slovenia, the Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO and the UNESCO Headquarters.

In total, some 100 representatives participated in the online discussions.

At the virtual event, our country was represented by a delegation led by Rashad Azizov, head of Innovations and Digital Development Department of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies.

During the event, detailed information was provided on the goals of the initial version of the draft "Recommendations on the ethics of Artificial Intelligence", areas of application, preparation process and justification of need for consultations and future use of the results.

It should be noted that the document aims to ensure respect for the rights enshrined in the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and support UNESCO member states in the research, design, development and implementation of artificial intelligence systems in support of human well-being, the environment and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Moreover, discussions were held in the working groups set up with the participation of delegations from different countries, and a synthesis report containing the proposals of the working groups was prepared, taking into account the changes and additions made to the text of the draft.

The final draft is expected to be submitted for adoption by member states during the 41st session of the UNESCO General Conference in November 2021.
