Samsung unveils remote-controlled 5G car at Goodwood Festival of Speed


Samsung has revealed its 5G enabled car that can be operated remotely. Developed in association with Designated Driver and Vodafone, this 5G car is expected to deliver a complete end-to-end solution.
 
The South Korean technology giant claims, this connected car s first-of-its-kind virtual reality car. Based on a Lincoln MKZ, the car was being controlled from a different location by drift champion Vaughn Grittin Jr.
 
The car used the Designated Driver tele operation system, while the new Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and Samsung VR headset were also used and all of these were connected by Vodafone 5G network.Yoon Lee, Senior Vice President, Product Innovation and Content & Services, Samsung Electronics America, said, “This proof of concept is a great stepping stone towards remote presence use-case using 5G and the Goodwood FOS was the perfect testing ground."
 
He also said, "We are thrilled to lead future consumer experience in 5G by pushing the boundaries of our 5G product portfolio and technologies.”
 
5G enabled cars are currently a much-talked subject as the world automobile market is advancing towards connected cars. In India, recently Hyundai and MG Motors have launched their connected cars Venue and Hector that come with 5G e-SIM onboard.With Samsung testing this remotely controlled 5G car, more connected car technology is expected to be seen in the near future from the South Korean company.
