In his speech he underlined the enormous contribution made by the great Azerbaijani scientist, philosopher and astronomer of the 13th century Nasraddin Tusi, to the development of mathematics in Azerbaijan. A. Hachiyev pointed out that starting from the 16th century more than 30 articles written by Nasraddin Tusi were translated into different languages of the world, and this, in its turn, has played a significant part in the development of mathematics in Europe.
The deputy minister of communications and information technologies Elmir Velizadeh also spoke at the event. He said that the conference organized in accordance with the Action Plan, which was prepared in connection with the declaration 2013 the Year of Information and Communication Technologies in the republic, would play a special role in strengthening of the scientific potential of the country. In his speech the deputy minister pointed out that the foundation for creating a powerful scientific school has already been laid in the country, and that measures for preservation and further development of the national and scientific potential were envisaged in the Action Plan. Then, the director of the Institute of Mechanics and Mathematics of ANAS Misir Mardanov delivered a statement at the conference.
He said that more than 40 representatives from 13 countries, including Russia, Ukraine, Egypt, Germany, Turkey, Israel, Kazakhstan, Italy, Mexico, France, Uzbekistan, Belgium and Iran, were taking part in the activity, which would promote mathematics in Azerbaijan and strengthen international cooperation among various countries. M. Mardanov also said that during the 3-day conference more than 240 scientists from different countries were expected to deliver statements and hold discussions on actual problems existing in the field of mathematics and informatics. After that, conference participants made presentations under the topic “Actual problems of mathematics and informatics.”
It should be noted that the conference, which will last till 31 May 201, is organized in two sections:
Mathematics and Informatics. Section meetings are focused on Functional Analysis, Spectral Theory of Operators, Approximation Theory, Differential Equations, Harmonic Analysis and Functions Theory, Fuzzy Theory, Probability and Mathematical Statistics, Control Theory. The informatics section includes topics such as Artificial Neural Networks, Fuzzy Systems, Computer Networks and Systems, Decision Making Systems, Pattern Recognition, Natural Language Processing, Software Engineering, Web Applications and Web Service, Information Security, Information Technologies and Computer Education, Nanotechnology.
During the conference presentations on modern directions of harmonic analysis in mathematics, wavelet and frame analysis, potential theory, solving applied physics and mathematics equations, optimal control and problems in mechanics, spectral theory of operators¸ multiciphered informatics logics, approximation neural networks, expert systems, different applications of neural networks, numerical solution of mathematical models of nature and ecology problems were held.

An international conference titled “Actual Problems of Mathematics and Informatics” and dedicated to the 90th jubilee of Heydar Aliyev has been held in Baku with support of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies (MCIT) and the Institute of Information Technologies (IIT) of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). The activity began with an opening speech delivered by the president of the Azerbaijan Mathematical Society, vice-president of ANAS academician Akif Hachiyev. In his speech he underlined the enormous contribution made by the great Azerbaijani scientist, philosopher and astronomer of the 13th century Nasraddin Tusi, to the development of mathematics in Azerbaijan.
