On the eve of the debate on the ethical aspects of using artificial intelligence, a report on this topic was presented at UNESCO. The authors of the report note that objects with cognitive properties are unpredictable, and their actions are conditioned by random situations and previous experience. Their dissemination in society raises many questions related to how they will affect the behavior of a person, what social and cultural changes they can cause. There are also problems related to security, the right to privacy and protection of human dignity.
The consequences of the rapid development of modern technologies are also of concern to the UN Secretary-General. Responding to questions from journalists in New York, he noted that much depends on how humanity can benefit from new discoveries.
“With the help of genetic engineering, we can get rid of terrible diseases, but we can also spawn monsters. Artificial intelligence can enable us to improve our lives and even achieve Sustainable Development Goals, which would be difficult to do in the absence of effective technologies,” the UN head emphasized. But at the same time, as Stephen Hawking said, artificial intelligence can turn into a threat to humanity.”
At the same time, Antonio Guterres stressed that fears and doubts should not stop the development of new technologies. We need to seriously think about how to take advantage of them and manage the potential risks associated with them, un.org. informs.
UN head: “Fears and doubts should not overshadow the advantages of artificial intelligence”
How will the development of robotics affect human life? Is there a danger of creating a new "Frankenstein"? Is it possible to instill ethical principles in robots?
