Design & 5G Moto Mod
Externally, it’s fair to say that the smartphone doesn’t really bring anything new to the table. In fact, it’s essentially identical to the mid-range Moto Z3 Play that was announced earlier this year thanks to its tall 6-inch AMOLED display up front and minimal bezels on either side.
Elsewhere on the smartphone, the rear panel switches out aluminum for glass in this generation and naturally includes the signature Motorola camera module in the center of the panel. Also, in an unsurprising move, the pin connector on the Moto Mods pin connector makes a return and actually serves a pretty important purpose this time around. Just as expected, all previous Moto Mods will be compatible with the flagship Moto Z3. However, Motorola also went on to announce a new 5G Mod that has been developed in partnership with Verizon. This will allow customers to eventually take advantage of the carrier’s next-generation network thanks to the Snapdragon X50 modem that is featured inside the mod. Additionally, the accessory also makes the Moto Z3 the first 5G-upgradeable smartphone.
Camera
Just like many of Motorola’s recent smartphones, the Moto Z3 includes two cameras on the rear that both boast 12-megapixel resolutions. Unlike competing smartphones that often include one telephoto or super wide-angle lens, though, Motorola has stuck to a more basic setup that simply improves the overall look of images.
In terms of the selfie department, the American company has confirmed that the smartphone will come equipped with an 8-megapixel camera.
Specifications
Unlike most 2018 flagship smartphones, the Motorola Moto Z3 doesn't come equipped with the Snapdragon 845. Instead, it makes use of last year's Snapdragon 835 – just like the Moto Z2 Force Edition – and 4GB of RAM. Moreover, 64GB of internal storage is also on offer although it’s unclear at this point if any other storage options will be made available. Aside from these details, a 3,000mAh battery is set to be included inside the smartphone but those who purchase the 5G Moto Mod will receive an extra 2,000mAh when connected. Also, Android 8.1 Oreo is included straight out of the box but a speedy update to Android 9.0 P will hopefully arrive shortly after its launch.
Release date, price, and offers
As mentioned above, the Moto Z3 will be available exclusively through Verizon Wireless in the US and will begin shipping August 16. In terms of cost, the smartphone will be available to purchase for just $480 and those who switch networks and trade in their own device can get a $300 trade-in credit. In regards to the pricing of the 5G Moto Mod, Motorola is yet to confirm any details. However, it did state that it won’t be available until the beginning of 2019.
Additionally, as a limited-time offer, those who purchase the Moto Z3 will be able to get their hands on any Moto Mod that cost over $100 for just $50.
Verizon Motorola Moto Z3 announced with Snapdragon 835 and 5G Moto Mod support
At the brand’s event in Chicago, Motorola has just unveiled the Moto Z3 as its latest flagship smartphone, ditching the Force branding for the first time since the introduction of the Moto Z line and releasing exclusively on Verizon later this month.Design & 5G Moto Mod
