Bharti selects Nokia Siemens to build 4G network
Bharti Airtel Ltd. said Wednesday it has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to build and operate fourth-generation mobile broadband network to offer high-speed Internet services in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.
A statement from India's largest mobile phone company by users didn't provide any financial terms. A person familiar with the matter told Dow Jones Newswires that the contract is worth EUR100 million.
Nokia Siemens will provide network design, integration, commissioning and optimization services to Bharti for a rapid roll out of the network, the statement said.
Bharti holds broadband licenses in the servie areas of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kolkata and Punjab, which it won by paying close to $740 million to the government in 2010.
Nokia Siemens already manages and maintains the basic and third-generation mobile phone networks for Bharti in eight of India's 22 telecom service areas.
