Launching Azerbaijani satellites into orbit is expected in 2013, 2014 and 2015, Azerbaijani Communications and IT Minister Ali Abbasov said in an interview with the Qatari newspaper Al-Raya, the ministry reported.
The first telecommunication satellite of Azerbaijan (Azerspace-1) will be delivered to the Kourou cosmodrome in October 2012, and its launch is scheduled for the next three months.
French Arianspace will send the satellite into orbit. Azerspace's manufacturer is Orbital Sciences Corporation. An orbital position of 46 degrees east longitude has been leased from Malaysian satellite operator MEASAT.
Cost of the first satellite program of Azerbaijan is estimated at $250 million.
At present, work has been launched already on construction of the main and backup satellite control stations, which will be completed by late September.
The main control center will be located in the Guzdek settlement in the Garadag district of Baku, while the reserve - in the territory of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic.
