‘Azerkosmos’ OJSC prepares to launch low-orbit satellite
Azerbaijan is expected to start launching low-orbit satellites into orbit in the next few years in order to survey earth surface for security, scientific research, economical and other purposes.
As part of ‘The State Program for the creation and development of the space industry in the Republic of Azerbaijan’, preparatory activities are being currently implemented in the republic to this end. The ‘Azerkosmos’ OJSC began to create low-orbit satellites based on the requirements for technical parameters of satellites and results of research of domestic and international markets of low-orbit satellites.
The ‘Azerkosmos’ OJSC reports that the capabilities of low-orbit satellites can be used to monitor the information security of infrastructure projects of strategic purpose, support the management and prevention of emergency situations, in cartography and geodesy, in addressing issues of real estate, environmental protection, in agriculture, regulation of transport and communications infrastructure, in environmental monitoring and forecasting of technogenic emergencies, as well as in research on their study, assessment of the extent of oil spills at sea and on land, etc.
To carry out relevant work in this direction there were launched negotiations with the relevant agencies. In order to accelerate the work ‘Azerkosmos’ held a tender for manufacturing, insurance, and launching of low-orbit satellites into orbit.
The Azekosmos’ OJSC is presently conducting negotiations with foreign companies to identify opportunities for cooperation. Low-orbit satellites will be launched after launching the first national satellite of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2013.
