Discrepancy between equipment standards hampers development of optical access in Azerbaijan
The main reason hindering the development of fiber-optic broadband access in Azerbaijan is the discrepancy between standards of end-users' equipment and the main equipment installed at the service provider, Director General of Delta Telecom Ramadan Veliyev informed press.
Veliyev said equipment of provider of Internet services installed, for example, by Alcatel and Huawei Technologies, is unable to provide the necessary degree of bandwidth, if the end user, without being able to purchase the equipment of these manufacturers uses other devices to access.
"Of course, there are international standards in this area, but the producers by taking such steps in order to sell their products overstep the limits of set international standards. Today testing and research in this area are underway," Veliyev said. The company is currently implementing a large-scale project of laying fiber-optic cables in Baku.
The matter is several hundred kilometers of cable lines that will cover most of the buildings in the capital, which will increase the number of Internet users in Baku. Delta Telecom, according to Veliyev, is not the only company that implements work to expand the optical cable in the capital. "Currently, Delta Telecom optic lines cover more than 30 buildings in the city of Baku and as work in this area expands, their number increases.
But in this case demand for services and purchasing power are very important. There is a certain category of users, who today are not satisfied with speed of 3-5 Mbit / s. Therefore, some work in this direction is underway both to to improve the infrastructure and to introduce new technologies," Veliyev said.
