Distribution of frequencies for mobile communications to be discussed at World Radio Communications Conference (WRC-15)
The distribution of frequency bands 694 MHz and 790 MHz L for mobile networks will be discussed at the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-15) of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in 2015, the State Management of Radio frequencies reported.
The issue was discussed at the end of July in the framework of the Working Group meeting ITU-R (Joint Task Group), with the participation of ITU member countries, including Azerbaijan. In Azerbaijan, these frequency resources are used for television broadcasting.
"The development of new technologies, new communication standards, one of which is the standard of the fourth generation LTE (Long Term Evolution), requires a review of the issue of rational use of frequency bands. Final decision in this regard should be taken in the frame of WRC-15.
Numerous discussions will be held prior to this. It is possible that the matter will not have a solution as not many administrations agree with it. It is also possible that network frequencies 694 MHz or 500 MHz will be transferred to mobile network. Then again, maybe not everyone agrees with this because each country has the right to nominate its proposal or even to abandon the discussion," the State Management of Radio frequencies said.
Earlier this year, ITU has decided to use the frequency spectrum of 790 and 860 MHz for the needs of mobile communication. If these frequencies were previously reserved for TV, mobile services and air navigation, then now they can be used for the needs of mobile communications.
It is necessary to comply with the relevant conditions for their coordination. In Azerbaijan, these frequencies are used in broadcasting, navigation and communication services of CDMA standard. Frequency bands 790 and 860 MHz, which are used today in analog broadcasting, may be released during the transition to digital television, which will allow to use them more appropriately. In the future, the frequency of 790 and 860 MHz can be used to deploy the LTE standard.
