“Azerpocht” prepares for World Post Day anniversary
On October 9 “Azerpocht” LLC plans to celebrate the 137-th anniversary of creation of the Universal Postal Union (UPU).
The following measures will be implemented before this date in order to get ready for the jubilee: new offices will be put into operations for Siazan, Ganja, Geychay, Chakhirli, Sabirabad post offices, meetings will be held in all postal organizations, cleaning and tidying of all administrative buildings and adjacent territories will be carried out, posters bearing inscription “October 9 - World Post Day” will be hung in all post offices and public places.
Let’s remind that exchange of mail between countries started to assume an organized form after the Universal Postal Union (UPU) had been established. The date of creation of UPU is celebrated as professional holiday by all postal workers in the world.
In 1874, a conference was held in Berne, Switzerland, with delegates from more than 20 countries.
During the congress an agreement was signed to establish the Universal Postal Union, and the main document - Universal Postal Convention, outlining basic principles of UPU and rights and responsibilities of members, was adopted. Today nearly 200 states are represented in this structure. Azerbaijan has been a member of UPU since 1993.
