China to create supercomputer performing 1 quadrillion operations per second
This year, China plans to begin development of a new supercomputer with a capacity of 1,000 petaflops (1 quadrillion operations per second).
Commenting on the issue, the head of the National Centre for Supercomputing Liu Guang Ming said that the need for creation of a new generation supercomputer is preconditioned by the fact that the supercomputer "Tianhe-1" has already started working almost at full capacity.
“The new generation of supercomputers will be created by China,” he said.
According to the current edition of the TOP-500 rating, the fastest supercomputer in the world is Tianhe-2 system (MilkyWay-2), which was created in China.
