Artificial intellect learns to recognise pain
Scientists from the University of Oulu in Finland have developed an artificial intellect that can detect pain by analysing human facial expression. By reading changes in the features of the human face, the algorithm is able to distinguish between 16 degrees of pain strength, according to Popular Science. Scientists created the system with the use of video-clips showing people with different emotions. Around 200 people took part in the study, so that the system learned to identify the pain with minimum error. The algorithm distinguishes between 16 degrees of pain. The researchers plan to use artificial intellect in medical institutions. The system will automatically notify the hospital staff after detecting signs of pain on the patient's face. Cameras will be installed in hospital wards for this purpose, Mail.ru reports.
