Baku hosts meeting of Board of Trustees of UPU Quality of Service Fund


The meeting of Board of Trustees (BoT) of UPU Quality of Service Fund (QSF) is being held in Baku. The meeting is organized by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) with the support of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies (MCHT).

Welcoming the meeting  participants on behalf of the Ministry of Communications and High  Technologies of  the Republic of Azerbaijan,  head of  postal sector of MCHT Novruz Mammadov informed  on the reforms  carried out and  projects implemented in our country for the development of postal  sphere to improve the quality of service,  postal legislation and other issues.

It was noted that 8 projects have been implemented in cooperation with the Universal Postal Union so far. These projects include the purchase of vehicles for mail transportation, various types of scanners, printers, tracking systems which have been put into use in the postal network.

At the meeting, relevant recommendations were presented on behalf of the RCC Postal Communications Commission and Postal Communication Operators. It was noted that the projects implemented by QSF are particularly contributing to the developing countries and there is need to continue such projects in the future.

In turn, speaking of the 26th Universal Postal Congress to be held in Istanbul, Turkey on 20 September -7 October, QSF Board of Trustees Chair Isabel Tavares said that the QSF’s further activities will be discussed at forthcoming congress.

Ms. Tavares expressed confidence that the Quality of Service Fund will continue its work more actively and in a positive direction in the years to come.

Note that the meeting, which will run 3 days, is being held in Azerbaijan for the first time.

The Board of Trustees considers projects submitted to the UPU by the postal administrations of 9 countries of the world to improve the quality of postal services, approves or rejects them, oversees their implementation.

Azerbaijan is one of the 9 countries (USA, Australia, Portugal, Switzerland, Egypt, India, Nigeria, and Chile). Azerbaijan at the Board represents the region of Eastern Europe and Northern Asia.

Being a member of this important body, our country gets good opportunities for the development and financing of a number of important projects in the postal sphere.
