Instagram’s monthly users hit 800 million
Instagram’s tally of monthly active user has hit the 800 million mark, and Facebook’s photo sharing app now boasts 2 million advertisers.
That was the word from Carolyn Everson, Facebook’s vice president of global marketing solutions, at a Monday session at Advertising Week NY.
Everson said the 800 million monthly active user number represents a 14 percent jump from the 700 million Instagram registered in April. More than 500 million people now use Instagram every day, she said.
That’s bad news for rival app Snapchat, which said it had just 173 million daily active users in August. Snapchat didn’t disclose its monthly user figure.
To make matters worse, Instagram said Monday its “stories” slideshow feature that mimics Snapchat’s has 250 million monthly users — more than Snapchat’s entire user base.
The average consumer makes over 2,000 touches of their mobile phone per day, Everson said. While most see mobile as the wave of the future and the present, she still thinks “industry is underestimating its impact.”
