GSMA will simplify smartphones’ configuration for mobile networks
GSMA Association will create an open standard for the integration of operator settings with smartphone operating systems. Now, to support some options, for example, VoLTE and Wi-Fi calls, each device undergoes the approval procedure by operators. Companies certify the firmware and add configuration files to them, which takes time.
GSMA offered an original solution to the problem and already found several large partners for this. The organization proposes to enter a single database with the settings of operators: instead of certifying the firmware, service providers will release universal configuration files. Then smartphones with technology support will download all the settings automatically after inserting the SIM card.
Thus, manufacturers and operators will save money on development and testing, and users will be able to receive firmware updates faster. Cooperate with GSMA has already agreed to AT & T, Verizon, Three, Vodafone, Samsung, LG and other companies. The timing of the introduction of a single database has not yet been reported.
