Razer gets on board the wirelessly charging mouse pad train with its new HyperFlux line
Ever since Logitech introduced the Powerplay mouse pad last June, it seems like gaming accessory manufacturers have been scrambling to release their own takes on the “wirelessly charging mouse pad” concept. At CES 2018, we’ve already seen various takes on the concept from Mad Catz and Corsair, and now it’s time for Razer to take a crack at it with its new HyperFlux technology.
The company is starting off with one pair of products — the Razer Mamba HyperFlux mouse and the Razer Firefly HyperFlux mouse pad — both of which are just updated versions of existing Razer products, complete with the requisite Razer Chroma lighting.
But unlike the original Mamba wireless mouse, the Mamba HyperFlux doesn’t have a battery on board. Instead, it’s powered entirely by the included Firefly HyperFlux mouse pad, giving you all the cord-free benefits of a wireless mouse without the extra weight of a battery. (The mouse pad does still need to be plugged into your computer.) You’ll also be able to directly connect the Mamba HyperFlux through a Micro USB cable so that you can still use it when you’re away from your Firefly HyperFlux pad.
While there’s only the one mouse and mouse pad for now, it’s easy to imagine that Razer could branch out its HyperFlux line to other products in its portfolio, too. That said, the HyperFlux technology is proprietary to Razer, and like the other versions of the technology from Mad Catz and Logitech, each can only be used with the specific company’s products and don’t support other wireless charging standards, like Qi.
The Razer Mamba HyperFlux and Firefly HyperFlux will be sold in a bundle together for $249.99 sometime in the first quarter of 2018.
