Future iPhone will be able to scan the surrounding area
According to foreign AppleInsider, Apple plans in 2019 to significantly expand the capabilities of the iPhone camera. Reportedly, future “Apple” smartphone will get a 3D scan of the surrounding world. At its core, the technology will be similar to the TrueDepth front camera in the iPhone X.
Scanning the outside world is a continuation of the concept of development of Apple in the area of augmented reality. With the upgrade to iOS 11 smartphones and tablets, the company received the support of ARKit and AR apps, able to display virtual content over the real world using the device’s camera. The new technology will use the basic iPhone camera, for example, use “animacy”, as the front camera of the iPhone X.
