Android to increase its share in smartphone market
The Android operating system will not only maintain leadership in the smartphone market, but will also increase its share in the coming years. This forecast was presented by analysts of International Data Corporation (IDC).
According to IDC’s preliminary data, a total of 1.2 billion Android smartphones will be released in 2018, which is 3% less than a year earlier. Given that the volume of the entire market of "smart" phones will be 1.42 billion units, the share of Android-devices will make 85.1%. IOS will account for 14.8% of shipments, or about 210.4 million units (a decline of 2.5% is expected).
IDC predicts that in the period from 2017 to 2022, shipments of smartphones running Android will increase by 1.7% annually, and in 2022, 1.36 billion Android smartphones will be shipped. At the same time, iPhone sales will reach 217.3 million units in 2022.
Analysts predict that in 2022, the share of Android and iOS in the global smartphone market will be 86.2% and 13.8%, respectively, Dailycomm.ru reports.
