Republican Sports Contest Saghlamlig (Health) 2018 was organized by the Republican Independent Trade Union Committee of Communications Workers and the Spartak Volunteer Physical Training and Sports Society Public Union with the support of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies.
The main purpose of the competition is to protect the health of workers of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, its subordinate organizations, and to ensure their physical strengthening, as well as determine national teams on separate types of sports.
Teams of eight subordinate enterprises and organizations of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies will compete at the sports contest that will be held for the 23rd time on eight types of sports (shooting sports, ping-pong, athletics (cross), volleyball, tug of war, backgammon, chess, checkers).
Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Elmir Velizade, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Ismayil Ismayilov, Deputy Chairman of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan Javanshir Alkhasov, representatives of communication enterprises and representatives of sports societies attended the opening ceremony.
Declaring the sports contest open, Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Elmir Velizade said that as a result of the successful socio-economic policy founded by national leader Heydar Aliyev and effectively continued by Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, along with the achievements in other areas, Azerbaijan has also become a sporting nation.
“The Republican Sports Contest is traditionally held within the framework of the professional holiday of workers of communication and high technologies in order to support promotion of sports in the country. The successful holding of the first European Games in 2015, the Chess Olympiad in 2016, the Islamic Solidarity Games in 2017, and the Formula-1 in our country are significant events. The fact that Baku was tasked with holding the final match of the 2019 UEFA Europe League and four matches of the 2020 European Football Championship to be organized for the first time in a new format in the history of the European Football Championship is an indicator of the appreciation given to the great work done in our country, including achievements in sports and physical education.”
Elmir Velizade said that athletes of the organizations under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies always achieve high results in different tournaments on various types of sports.
“The team of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies won the team competition in the “Mübarizlər” (Fighters) of the International Extreme Sports Tournament, which was held in September this year in Baku,” – the Deputy Minister said.
Other speakers pointed out that our country has made considerable progress in the field of sports in recent years and underlined that such sports contests make significant contributions to the overall development.
The opening ceremony continued with an artistic part.
