Azerbaijan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan discuss opportunities for cooperation on transnational fiber-optic cable line
A trilateral meeting between the officials of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan was held in Baku on January 10. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss cooperation opportunities on transnational fiber-optic cable line.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ramin Guluzade, Minister of Communications and Information Technology of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Shahzad Aryobee, as well as Minister of Finance of this country Mohammad Humayon Qayoumi, Director General of Turkmenistan’s Ashgabat City Telephone Network Yusup Kerimov, Deputy General Director of Turkmentelecom Durdeli Ataev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the Republic of Azerbaijan Khairullah Spelenai.
During the trilateral meeting, an exchange of views took place on the laying of the Siyazan-Turkmenbashi fiber-optic cable line through the Caspian Sea between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, as well as providing Afghanistan with internet through the territory of Turkmenistan. For this purpose, it was decided to set up a joint working group consisting of experts from the three countries to develop a feasibility study.
