Cable channel pits periodically sustain damage from theft and intrusion
During the recent period, the cable channel pits that are located in the service areas of Communication Services Center No: 4 of Baku Telephone Communications LLC have suffered damage from theft and intrusion.
Thus, TPP-type copper cable, iron rods and metal pit covers that are on the balance sheet of Baku Telephone Communications LLC were stolen from the cable channel pits. As a result of this theft, there have been interruptions and breakdowns in providing communication services and the company has sustained material damage. In total, Baku Telephone Communications LLC has suffered a loss of 40484,54 AZN from this theft.
As the technical staff of Communication Services Center checks the cable channel pits located in the center’s service area during the daytime, theft mainly occurs during the nonworking time.
Due to the facts mentioned above, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies have filed the relevant appeals to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
80 related criminal cases have been initiated by Sabunchu District Police Office and Sabunchu Railway Police Station of Railway Transport Police Department. 76 of them were classified as a theft and 4 – as an attempted theft. As a result of operative-search measures, the guilty persons have been identified and convicted.
It should be noted that another cable theft was discovered by police officers in Surakhani district of Baku while they were carrying out operative-search measures. The persons who stole 220-meter cable from the cable channel pit located in the service area of Communication Services Center No: 4 have been apprehended. The resident of Baku ex-convict Maharram Alirzayev and the residents of Tovuz region Khagani Alekperov and Nichat Yusifov who are being suspected in the crime have been arrested.
