The global e-commerce market amounted 29 trillion dollars
The global e-Commerce market grew by 13 percent in 2017, with a turnover of 29 trillion dollars. This was reported on Friday by experts of the UN Conference on trade and development (UNCTAD).
Accordingly, the number of online buyers has increased: they have become 12 percent more. 1.3 billion people – a quarter of the world's population – do shopping online.
Most Internet consumers buy goods and services within their countries. However, the number of those ordering products from abroad rose to 21 per cent – largely at the expense of buyers from the United States.
As a result, the volume of international electronic trade on a "business-to-consumer" (B2C) increased by 4 percent, to $ 412 billion.
"New figures show that e-Commerce creates a lot of opportunities, – said the head of UNCTAD Mukhisa Kitui. – But in terms of development, the question is whether enterprises in developing countries are ready to take advantage of these opportunities."
The list of world leaders in e-Commerce over the past couple of years has not changed. The first three positions are still held by the US, Japan and China. The top ten "giants" of Internet Commerce also include Germany, South Korea, great Britain, France, Canada, India and Italy.
