Apple rumoured to delay the mass production of iPhone 12
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) claims the mass production of the Apple iPhone 12 has been delayed.
People familiar with the matter say Apple is about a month behind on iPhone production as the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted the global supply chain and air travel. As a result, Apple is said to have cut build estimates for the July - December period by almost 20%.
The latest report by WSJ is in line with predictions from other analysts and publications. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote last week that there is a one-month delay in the engineering verification testing for the new iPhones.
Goldman Sachs expects the iPhone 12 to be available only in early November. Reuters also reported that the production ramp-up for the iPhone 12 has been postponed.
Analyst Jeff Pu shared that two iPhone 12 models could be available in September while the higher-end models would be available in October. The Bank of America shared a similar claim on the delayed availability of the iPhone 12.
Nikkei Asian Review believed the launch of the iPhone 12 could be delayed by months, and could even be postponed to 2021. However, Foxconn's investor relations chief Alex Yang reportedly said the iPhone 12 is still on track to launch in September.
