Canalys: The iPhone 11 was the best-selling smartphone worldwide in the third quarter
The two best-selling smartphones in the world in the third quarter were iPhones, according to Canalys. The top 10 table also includes five Samsung phones and three Xiaomi devices. Neither of them comes close to the Apple iPhone 11, which is way ahead of the competition with 16 million units sold. Its sibling, the iPhone SE (2020), is a distant second with around 10 million units. While the SE is the cheapest new iPhone, the better feature set has created the perfect value for money.
This goes without saying for these two – Canalys’ second quarter report showed that the iPhone 11 represented nearly 40% of Apple’s global volume, the SE was at 28%. In particular, the iPhone 11 took first place in the top 10 table for four quarters in a row.
The Samsung Galaxy A21s is almost the same as the SE, followed by the Galaxy A11. In fact, the only Samsung phones that make it into the top 10 are from the lower half of the A-series – the top-end model is the A51.
Likewise, Xiaomi’s best-selling phones are Redmi models, led by the Redmi Note 9 (including the Redmi 10X 4G version). Not even the Pro model and not even the 5G variant.
No 5G smartphone made it into the top 10 charts from July to September. However, Apple’s introduction of the iPhone 12 generation and the recently released multiple mid-range Androids with 5G could change in the next quarter.
