Google unveils Logica as open-source programming language

Google has released a new programming language named Logica which is a successor of Yedalog. The new programming language compiles SQL and can run on Google BigQuery. It is said to be more concise and supports the reusable abstraction feature that SQL lacks.

Google is behind numerous programming languages such as Go and Dart while their newest addition is Logica which has been made public.

Logica is Yedalog’s successor which was also one of the programming languages offered by Google. The new programming language compiles SQL and can run on Google BigQuery. It is more crisp and supports the reusable abstraction feature that SQL lacks.

The programming languages solve the issues that SQl faces by leveraging syntax that are mathematical in nature as far as logic is concerned rather than simple English language. The language has been designed by talented mathematicians primarily to make it easier for developers to express complex statements as mathematical in nature better suits the use case instead of plain English. Expression of complex statements is easier and suits this purpose much better than natural language.

It is a declarative programming language that is best suited for data manipulation. Among its objectives are improving the readability of queries in comparison to SQL while being appropriate for big data management as well. The new programming language is open-source under an Apache 2.0 license.

More information on the new programming language can be found on the Google Open-Source blog which has some code samples depicted as well for those who are really interested.
