Huawei beats Apple in average memory size
Research firm Counterpoint Research analyzed the average memory sizes on smartphones of various brands. In their opinion, one of the main trends in recent years can be called a significant increase in the volume of built-in storage, which allowed many manufacturers to raise the average figures above 100 GB.
According to the report, in the 4th quarter of 2020, Huawei became the leader of the list with an average of 150 GB of storage. Apple is following with a slight lag, but a pleasant surprise was the fact that several manufacturers of Android smartphones managed to overcome the 100 GB bar. Analysts believe the growth is due not only to increased demand among buyers, but also to a tangible decrease in the cost of high-performance UFS NAND.
It also notes that the gap between Apple and the major manufacturers of Android smartphones is narrowing. This is especially noticeable in the middle and high segment, where the 128 GB drive becomes the minimum threshold. At the same time, a fifth of the mobile phone market has doubled this figure (from 64 to 128 GB), and the same amount – four times (from 64 to 256 GB). Such a powerful leap is primarily due to the growth in consumer demand for high-definition video content and games.
Motorola and LG are the outsiders of the list, while Xiaomi is gaining popularity only in 7th place with a score of 94 GB. The reason may be in the large sales of budget series, where 32 GB variants are still found.
