Major fire at Apple supplier’s factory near Shanghai kills eight
Fire in a factory of Casetek Group, a Taiwan-based electronic manufacturer which is also a supplier to technology giant Apple, near Shanghai in China has killed eight people, including two firefighters, reports SCMP.
As per the statement from the government of Jinshan District related to this incident, the fire broke at the factory on Thursday at 1:30 PM and raged until Friday morning, killing two firefighters and six civilians.
The fire was fierce that over 900 firefighters, 123 fire engines, and eight robots were deployed to fight the fire. Officials are still investigating how the fire started, but the flames quickly engulfed the large plant when it gathered momentum.
While the cause of the fire still remains unknown, the investors are trying to determine it. The official statement from the government claims that this fire has not caused significant air or water pollution to the local environment.
Shengrui Electronic Company was acquired in 2020 by Casetek Group, which itself is owned by Pegatron. Casetek is known to be a producer of casings for Apple‘s MacBook lines as well as iPads. It remains to be seen how much of an impact this fire will have on the company’s supply chain.
