Nokia board to propose Siilasmaa as new chairman

Finnish mobile handset maker Nokia Corp.'s board of directors will propose Risto Siilasmaa as the company's new chairman, according to a report in Finland's largest daily Helsingin Sanomat.

Siilasmaa, a Finnish engineer born in 1966, has been a member of Nokia's board since 2008. Additionally he is the chairman, founder and former chief executive of F-Secure Corp., a Finnish computer security software company. He is also the current chairman of Finnish telecommunications company Elisa Oyj.

A Nokia spokesperson told Dow Jones Newswires that the company doesn't comment on rumors and speculation, but added that the nomination committee of Nokia's board will convene this month to decide on its proposal for the board composition.

Helsingin Sanomat, which cited unnamed sources, said Siilasmaa will be proposed by the board in conjunction with Nokia's fourth-quarter financial result publication on Jan. 26.

Jorma Ollila, the current chairman of the Finnish phone maker, last year said he would step down as the company's chairman in May. Ollila has been a Nokia board member since 1995 and its chairman since 1999.
