Broadband Internet in Azerbaijan to extinguish satellite antennas
The development of broadband Internet and the provision of radio and television services based on it will lead to the inevitability of home satellite antennas being taken out of service, Minister Ali Abbasov said at the board of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan on Saturday.
There are 17 fixed line phones per 100 people today while on the other hand there is an oversaturation in the mobile communication market. The volume of introducing fixed telephony in Azerbaijan is 19 per cent, but it is not a set limit, there are prospects for a further increase, Mr Abbasov said.
"We constantly discuss this issue as part of the Commission on broadband Internet. Many people may disagree, but I am optimistic about the development of fixed telephony and see it as a serious competitor to cable television, as it can provide broadband Internet, which can also provide television and radio services" Mr Abbasov said.
The development of broadband Internet in the regions and the provision of radio and television services based on it will be interesting for the customers and the need for it will increase further as cable TV operators are currently underdeveloped in the regions.
