SMS tracking for police clearance certificates in Sri Lanka

The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) in collaboration with the country’s police department recently launched an SMS-based tracking service for police clearance certificates. ICTA is a state-owned agency responsible for crafting the country’s ICT policy.

The service allows citizens to get information on the status of their police clearance certificate application by sending an SMS to 1919, the Government Information Service number.

The information on the status of the police clearance certificate application can also be obtained from the websites, www.srilanka.lk and www.police.lk.

“This is an important development,” Sanjaya Karunasena, Chief Technology Officer, ICTA told FutureGov. “Police clearance certificates are critical documents that are required when applying for a job or a visa, for example.

By making this information handy to people through their mobile phones, we are able to provide citizen services via mobile communications technologies.”
