World’s first self-service passport renewal machine installed in Copenhagen

Copenhagen residents can now change their old passports for new ones using a special device installed in one of the libraries of the city, reports The Copenhagen Post.

This device allows users to go through the whole procedure associated with the replacement of a document, without recourse to the passport office. In particular, the device allows them to attach a photo to the document, and even remove the fingerprints.

The service is available not only for the residents of Copenhagen, but for all Danes. Foreigners still have to contact the Embassy or the Consulate, said InvestInEu.com.

To use the service, pre-registration is required. To do this, the user has to access the official website of the city and choose the address of the civic centre, in which the unit is located, as well as the desired date and time.

In addition to a passport, the apparatus can also issue a driving license and some other documents.
