Estonia has permitted the use of robotic couriers

The founders of Skype three years ago opened a new company Starship Technologies and engaged in the development of robot couriers capable of transporting a parcel through the streets at speeds of about six kilometres per hour. These robots are already being tested in different countries, and also the Estonian Parliament approved the idea of using robotic couriers throughout the country.

In order to be legal, the robot must be not more than one meter in height and no longer than 1.2 meters. The weight of the robot is limited to 50 kilograms, and the body must be white. Be sure to have a robot courier headlight and reflectors. All of these requirements, robots from Starship Technologies meet, so that very soon these couriers can deliver across Estonia.

At the end of last year, the robots Starship Technologies began testing in different countries. Now you can find them on the streets in 60 cities, but there they are in the semi-legal status and limited capacity, although in some cities and countries robots were allowed to move freely through the streets. In the U.S. States of Virginia and Idaho, for example, adopted amendments to the law governing the movement of robots on the streets, and in San Francisco, where the relevant laws adopted previously, on the contrary, did not appreciate the robots care about people and want to repeal the amendment authorizing their use.
