Wearable device aims to lower stress levels


Developer of stress management technology, BioSelf Technology has announced a wearable device and app that can track and reduce stress in real-time at London Tech Week.
 
Sensate is a small pebble-like device that collects biometric data on stress markers when placed on the chest. The device collects data on heart rate, respiration, posture, temperature and mood and feeds it back to the app. The app then uses algorithms to analyse that data and calculate the optimum therapeutic response of Sensate for the wearer.
 
To help reduce stress the Sensate devices emits sub-audible sound waves that are felt through the chest rather than heard. BioSelf Technology state that the sound waves have been demonstrated to have a calming effect on the autonomic nervous system and vagus nerve.
 
According to the World Health Organisation stress-related illnesses cost the UK economy £43 billion every year.
 
Sensate also uses headphones to deliver pleasing natural sounds and music integrated with sound waves that guide brain activity towards specific frequencies.
