Chinese three-ton aerial truck AT200 made its first flight

World's first cargo drone with a tonnage loading capacity, the AT200, completed its first test flight at the Neifu Airport in Pucheng County, Shaanxi Province, October 26, Chinanews.com reported.

The unmanned aerial vehicle was jointly developed by the Engineering Thermophysics Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and other research institutes.

A "giant" among civilian drones, the AT200 has an 11.84-meter length, a 12.8-meter wingspan, and a 4.04-meter height. It has a maxim takeoff weight of 3.4 metric tons.

The cargo hold of the drone has a volume of 10 cubic meters and is designed to carry a payload of 1.5 metric tons.

The AT200 has a cruising speed of 313 km/h with around eight-hour duration. Its range is 2,183 km.

Fully loaded with cargo, the drone can take off or land within a short distance of 200 meters, allowing it to operate on small islands.

The research and development team declared that they would step up work to obtain an airworthiness certificate for the AT200 and put it into commercial operation as soon as possible.
