Korean scientists create self-healing coating for smartphones

After Japanese scientists who created the self-healing glass, a group of Korean research Institute of chemical technology have developed a new material “Elastomer”, which has a similar property. He is able to get rid of dents and cracks in just 30 minutes.

“Elastomer” can self-heal at room temperature and has twice the limit of the tensile strength than the competition. The figure still was the weakest side of all previous developments.

The researchers believe that the “Elastomer” is able to regenerate itself, while maintaining sufficient tensile strength to be suitable for commercial use. The developers believe that this material can be used as a protective layer on smartphones and tablets.

The technology is still in development, so about the mass use in commercial devices early to say.
