First robot seller fired a week after hiring due to unfortunate joke

Pepper, a humanoid robot created by Japanese telecoms giant SoftBank, was sacked as it did not manage his duties.

Margiotta Food & Wine in Edinburgh removed the robot from the sales area a week after the installation, for not being up to the job.

It was noted that it becomes apparent that Pepper is rather limited in the way he can help customers. For example, when a woman asks where she can find the milk, the robot says only that it’s “in the fridge section,” without explaining where the fridge section is, and without taking her there.

In addition, Pepper is put down to the store’s ambient noise causing a problem for his built-in microphones, also joked inappropriately.
